Two Palestinian Children Killed in Gaza Blast
Date: Fri Nov 5
GAZA (Reuters) - Two Palestinian children were killed in an explosion in the southern Gaza Strip (news - web sites) on Friday, and Israeli and Palestinian sources gave conflicting accounts of the cause of the blast.
Palestinian medics said the explosion was caused when an Israeli tank shell hit a house near the town of Khan Younis, killing two cousins aged 7 and 8.
Israeli military sources said there had been no army fire in the area. They said soldiers nearby heard the blast and believed it was either caused when a Palestinian mortar misfired or when a roadside bomb planted against troops detonated prematurely. There has been a relative lull in violence in recent days in Gaza, the coastal strip from where Israel plans to withdraw its troops and all 8,000 settlers next year.
