Palestinian shot dead by Israeli troops

JERUSALEM (AFP) - A Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli troops in the Gaza Strip (news - web sites) and his body recovered, a military source said.
"The soldiers spotted the figure of a man who was appproaching an area closed by the army and fired at him," the source said, adding that the incident happened near the Jewish settlement of Netzarim on the edge of Gaza City.
"On Saturday morning, after combing the area, the soldiers found the body of an unidentified Palestinian," the source added.
Palestinian officials said they had been informed of the shooting but the Israelis were still holding the body.
The latest death brings the overall toll since the September 2000 start of the Palestinian intifada, or uprising, to 4,244, including 3,246 Palestinians and 927 Israelis, according to an AFP count.
