GAZA CITY (AFP) - A 13-year-old Palestinian boy was shot dead by Israeli troops while walking with his family in the southern Gaza town of Rafah.
Salah Abu Alaes died after being shot in the neck while walking with his family near the entrance to Rafah's sprawling refugee camp on the Eid Al-Adha holiday, the most important Muslim festival, Palestinian medical sources said Thursday.
It was not clear why the soldiers opened fire and the army had no immediate comment.
The boy's death raised the overall toll since the September 2000 start of the Palestinian uprising to 4,713, including 3,659 Palestinians and 980 Israelis, according to an AFP count.
Earlier, Israeli troops shot dead a 14-year-old Palestinian boy who was playing with a toy gun, an Eid present, in the northern West Bank.
