NABLUS, West Bank (AFP) - Dozens of Palestinian patients have been evacuated from a major hospital in the West Bank town of Nablus after a booby-trapped car was found inside the compound.
The area around the Rafidiah hospital was sealed off by security forces as they defused the device inside the vehicle which had been parked just inside the compound.
Witnesses said the vehicle had been left at the hospital, the largest in the northern West Bank, for around three days.
Many of the patients could be seen carried out out of the hospital Sunday by wheelchair and stretcher, but they were able to return after less than 30 minutes when the explosive device in the car was defused and the scene declared safe.
Nablus has been the scene of some of the fiercest fighting of the five-year Palestinian uprising against Israel.
Its residents last week elected the radical Islamist movement Hamas, which has been behind the majority of anti-Israeli attacks since 2000, to govern their municipality.
