MOSCOW (AFP) - King Abdullah II of Jordan will discuss the situation in Iraq and Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip when he meets Russian President Vladimir Putin on a visit to Russia this week, Jordan's ambassador to Moscow told AFP.

"Issues connected to Iraq, issues connected to Palestine are top, especially now with the withdrawal of Israel from Gaza," Ambassador Abdelilah Kurdi said Monday.

"Russia is a member of the quartet, a member of the (UN) Security Council... Now Russia has a new balancing role between Russia, the Arab world and Israel."

King Abdullah was due to arrive in Moscow on Tuesday, where he was scheduled to attend the MAKS 2005 Air Show, a showcase for Russian military and civilian aircraft. He was then due to head to the Black Sea resort of Sochi for talks with Putin.

Russia is a member of the quartet, also comprising the European Union, the United Nations and United States, that is the sponsor of the "roadmap" plan for peace in the Middle East.
