TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran's foreign minister has said that Britain would be sent intelligence documents on a series of bombings in the oil city of Ahvaz which officials have blamed on London.
"The security authorities of the Islamic republic of Iran have announced their readiness to hand over their documents on the past and current incidents in Ahvaz to the concerned party in Britain," Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki told reporters.
"We hope with this we will prevent any future incidents," he said Saturday.
On Tuesday eight people were killed and 46 wounded in a twin bomb attack in Ahvaz, capital of oil-rich Khuzestan province and situated close to the border with British-patrolled southern Iraq.
Khuzestan, home to a large community of ethnic minority Iranian Arabs, has also been hit by a wave of insecurity over the past year -- including ethnic riots in April, a string of bombings in June and October and several pipeline blasts.
A provincial security official meanwhile told the official IRNA news agency that 40 people have been arrested in connection with the attacks in June and October 2005, adding the group would be tried in two weeks.
Iranian media has also reported that several arrests have been made in connection with Tuesday's blasts.
Britain has dismissed as "completely without foundation" the allegations concerning the Ahvaz bombings. Tehran and London have seen their relations steadily deteriorate in recent years, notably over Iran's nuclear programme and alleged Iranian meddling in Iraq.
