GAZA CITY (AFP) - Two Palestinian militants have been killed in an Israeli air strike on the southern Gaza Strip, medical and security sources said.

The two were both members of the Popular Resistance Committees who had been involved in the firing of rockets into southern Israel, the sources added Sunday.

Israeli military sources had earlier said that two Palestinians had been hit in the air strike in the Khan Yunis, close to a security fence which separates Gaza from Israel, but without giving details of their conditions.

The bodies were found by members of the ambulance service who were given clearance to enter the area more than an hour after the strike.

The latest deaths bring the overall toll since the September 2000 start of the Palestinian uprising to 4,957, according to an AFP count. The majority have been Palestinian.
