MOSCOW (AFP) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold discussions on the Middle East, Iran and Iraq during a four-day tour of Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia starting Sunday, the foreign ministry said.

The discussions will be aimed at finding "ways of overcoming the crisis in Palestinian-Israeli relations and preventing a further deterioration in the... situation in the Palestinian territories," the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, "particular attention will be paid to the situation in Iraq and the search for ways of normalising the situation... and establishing inter-Iraqi dialogue," the statement said.

"The Iranian nuclear issue will be touched on," the statement said, "including Russian efforts to prevent the resolution of this problem by force."

Russia is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a member of the Middle East diplomatic quartet that also comprises the European Union, the United Nations and the United States.
