HEBRON, West Bank (AFP) - Palestinian hairdressers in the West Bank town of Hebron offered a free trim to local government employees who have not been paid for more than two months.
The Hebron barber shops, which are usually shut on Monday, opened especillay for business and were offering free haircuts to employees, the local head of the Palestinian barbers' union, Rajai Shawar, told AFP.
"This is a symbolic gesture that shows our solidarity with the employees who are going through a very difficult financial situation," he said.
The Palestinian Authority has been unable to pay its staff as a result of economic sanctions imposed by the international community since the rise to power of the Islamist group Hamas which won a January parliamentary election.
