Iran, Palestine Sign Mou On Agricultural Cooperation

TEHRAN, July 31 Asia Pulse - Iran and Palestine here on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on expansion of agricultural cooperation between the two countries.

The MoU was inked between Iran's Minister of Agriculture-Jihad Mohammad-Reza Eskandari and his Palestinian counterpart Mohamed Algha.

At the signing ceremony, Eskandari said the MoU covers mutual cooperation as expansion and reconstruction of irrigation canals, equipping and renovation of farmlands in Palestine along with cooperation in the fisheries sector between the two countries.

Iran has donated vaccines and serums for animals valued at US$70,000 to Palestinian veterinary sector, he said.

Iran is to provide Palestine with educational programs in the agricultural sector, he pointed out.

The Palestinian minister, for his part, described Iran as the vanguard in the campaign against global hegemony and Israel and said the country is determined to help reconstruct agricultural sector in Palestine.

He also lauded Iran's humanitarian aid to Palestinian nations who are engaged in a decisive war against global hegemony led by US and Israel.

Referring to supports given by the Late Imam Khomeini to the Palestinian nations from the early days of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, he said the Iranian government is to continue this support until the liberation of holy Qods.

From the early stages of Intifada, the Palestinians have suffered losses to the tune of US$50 million in the agricultural sector while damages inflicted in horticulture stands over US$800 million, he pointed out.

Palestine seeks Iran's support in scientific, educational and technical sectors, he said adding that the MoU underlines reconstruction of a veterinary center in Nablus and promotion of research on agricultural products in Palestine.
