Palestinian woman dies from wounds, rockets fired from Gaza Strip

Naama Adwan, 50, was wounded on Monday in Beit Hanun in an Israeli operation during which seven Palestinians died Saturday.

Her death, according to an AFP count, brings to 5,458 the number of people killed since the Palestinian intifada, or uprising, erupted in September 2000, the vast majority of them Palestinians.

Meanwhile, an Israeli military source said two improvised rockets were fired Saturday from the Gaza Strip into the southern Israeli city of Sderot without causing any casualties.

One rocket exploded near a college and the other near a factory.

The attack was claimed by the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic group Hamas.

Israel has been pounding Gaza for four months after militants seized a soldier and killed two others in a cross-border raid in late June.

More than 260 Palestinians as well as two Israeli soldiers have been killed in the territory since June 28.

Despite the bombardment, Gaza militants have continued to fire rockets into the Jewish state and, according to Israel, have accumulated vast stockpiles of arms via tunnels dug to Egyptian territory.

In addition to Gaza, Israel has also increased its operations in the West Bank.
