Lebanon boycotts Munich meet because Israel attending

"The prime minister has apologised for declining an invitation from German Chancellor Angela Merkel to attend the Conference on Security Policy," the official said Wednesday.

"The reason is that Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Tzipi Livni will participate in the conference."

Often dubbed the "Davos of the security world," the 43rd Munich Conference on Security Policy will be held in Munich from Friday through Sunday.

Lebanon signed an armistice with Israel in 1949 but maintains no links with the Jewish state.

Beirut has vowed to be the last Arab country to sign a peace agreement with Israel, which led a massive military offensive on Lebanon last summer in a bid to crush the Shiite Muslim guerrilla group Hezbollah.
