Israeli minister warns of increased terrorist threat on Sharon from settlers
JERUSALEM (AFP) -
The threat of an assassination attempt against Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (news - web sites) by radical Jewish settlers has recently grown, minister without portfolio Gideon Ezra told parliament.
"The Shin Beth (Israel's internal security services) has established that the threat against the prime minister has recently intensified," he said.
Ezra explained that the assessment was based on public statements by Sharon as well as on classified information.
Following the June 4 summit in Aqaba during which Sharon promised to dismantle some settlement outposts, the Israeli press had warned of an increased threat from radical settlers.
