Israeli influence in America

04-30-07 - Clinton and Obama Raiding Donors Who Backed Bush Mr. Karp, a former Israeli paratrooper who described himself as Palestinian, said he is comfortable with both Mr. Bush and Mrs. Clinton because they have "very similar" views on Israel. "I very strongly believe in the U.S. supporting Israel," he said. "I always call Israel the 51st state."

04-29-07 - Countdown has begun ** Until recently, American intelligence estimated that this would only happen in 2015. Now US intelligence is falling into line with its colleagues in Israel and is estimating that an Iranian bomb can be expected as early as 2010. Imagine that?

04-29-07 - As Israel baseball league drafts its players, charities draft league "For Americans going over there, it is fascinating to see something so typically American being started in Israel. We are in the business of creating connections between Americans and the land of Israel." Why is that?

04-28-07 - Just an optical illusion If any American president were to give a small cough and say, in a half-whisper, "hmm, I am considering my steps concerning Israel," our country's excellent economic situation would immediately turn topsy-turvy. Israel's international credit line would instantly freeze, the dollar would soar, and so would our inflation rate. Our balance of payments surplus would become a deficit and foreign investment would flee Israel many times faster than it came. After all, the world knows that without American backing, tiny Israel would quickly revert to its natural proportions. Therefore, it really does not matter whether or not the economic aid ends in October. What is important is that Israel continue to enjoy the political support of the most powerful nation on earth. After all, were it not for America's veto in the United Nations Security Council, economic sanctions, a la South Africa during its apartheid regime, would have been imposed on Israel long ago. Without that veto, Israel would never have been able to continue fighting the Second Lebanon War when every other country in the world wanted it stopped as soon as it began. This writer laments the fact that Israel has to depend on American political and economic support. So do I. It's been sixty years - time for Israel to sink or swim on its own. If Israel can't make it without our support, then Israel should seriously ponder the question - why is that? Perhaps its time to change their behavior and learn how to get along with their neighbors. American support is not a sure thing and won't last forever - despite the best efforts by the Israeli lobby and government that seek to so clusterf&*k the two nations together that it would be near impossible for America to ever extricate itself from that unhealthy relationship (which is why they do it).

04-28-07 - Babes and Bikinis: Israel Plans to Revamp Its Image The project began six months ago when Israeli officials in the United States discovered (through market research) that men between the ages of 18 and 35 were uninterested in Israel, and considered the country "irrelevant.".....Maxim is going to run a special Israel edition this July that will promote the country to its 2.5 million readership, and the magazine hopes it will revamp Israel's image in the eyes of young American men. .....Saranga said Maxim is an excellent platform for delivering this message and will target the audience it is hoping to convert -- young men......Lindsay Citerman, an Israeli who studies Judaism in Jerusalem, said, "Tel Aviv is a sexy city, but I am not sure if this is the best way to sell Israel to Americans." Israel has to resort to T&A ops (in the US only, oddly) in order to win over Americans. Why is this campaign solely directed toward Americans (young men, at that)?

04-28-07 - Frisch School Seniors Lobby Congress - Students Travel to Washington to Meet with Congressmen and Senators "As future leaders of the Jewish community, it is necessary and important to lobby Congress in support of Israel,"

04-28-07 - AIPAC Trial Likely to be Postponed

04-27-07 - Failing to Hold Israel Accountable for War Crimes in Lebanon In late January the State Department delivered a potentially explosive report to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The classified report asserts that Israel may have violated the Arms Export Control Act with its use of American-made cluster munitions this past summer in Lebanon. Multiple contacts to both offices indicate neither Biden nor Pelosi has any intention of pursuing the matter. In contrast, a congressional investigation 25 years ago helped persuade President Ronald Reagan to suspend cluster munitions to Israel for six years. This Congress, however, will not call Israel to account for its actions. The US won't even hold Israel accountable for war crimes it committed against these guys.. Israel is almost never held to account by us or anyone for its flagrant violations of law, which only serves to encourage them to continue to do so.

04-27-07 - Crist's Visit To Israel Has Much At Stake The trip is at least in part a result of Crist's longtime friendship with U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, an ardent supporter of Israel and Israeli causes....Besides Wexler and Crist, those going to Israel may include state Reps. Dan Gelber, D-Miami Beach; Adam Hasner, R-Delray Beach; and Sen. Nan Rich, D-Weston

04-26-07 - Tracking Jewish money How our 'democracy' really works.

04-26-07 - The GE Presidential Debate Williams accused Obama of having said that the Palestinian people are suffering, and Obama assured him that he meant they were only suffering from their own leaders' failures and that Israel is not to blame. Obama has fully transformed into the asskisser of the AIPACers. Shame. Won't be getting my vote for that reason alone.

04-26-07 - Congress considers Jerusalem resolutions Resolutions in both houses of Congress promote the unity of Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty. Both resolutions are timed to commemorate 40 years of Israeli sovereignty throughout the city, which will be marked in June. .....The nonbinding resolution introduced Wednesday in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) calls on President Bush to stop exercising his waiver of a law that mandates moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv, and "calls upon the President and the Secretary of State to repeatedly affirm publicly, as a matter of United States policy, that Jerusalem must remain the undivided capital of the State of Israel." Move Capitol Hill to Tel Aviv. This is the fourth article dealing with Israel-related legislation in OUR government today alone. Let the Israelis pay their salaries.

04-26-07 - Resolution marks Israeli independence A U.S. Senate resolution celebrating Israel's 59th Independence Day is expected to pass unanimously. Sens. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) introduced the resolution. .....In addition to praising the creation of the Jewish state, the resolution commends U.S.-Israel cooperation in defense, diplomacy and homeland security. It also commends the bipartisan support for Israel in the United States. I guess OUR representatives on Capitol Hill had no pressing AMERICAN matters to attend to this week?

04-26-07 - House passes 'human shields' bill In remarks, Reps. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) and Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) noted recent reports that Israeli troops had used Palestinians as shields, while Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.) countered that in Israel, soldiers found guilty of doing so were punished. .....The American Jewish Congress lobbied strongly for the bill. People were not 'held responsible'. The problem with this piece of legislation for Israel is that in its exhaustive research of that conflict, Human Rights Watch found no such evidence that Hezbollah was using human shields. In fact, Israel only recently was caught (on tape via AP) doing that very thing. Add to that the fact that Israel, knowing that a ceasefire was imminent (expected in 3 days), fired a million cluster bomblets into mainly civilian areas of Lebanon.

04-26-07 - Hagel: Support for Israel not 'automatic' Hagel (R-Neb.), who is considering a run for the presidency, told the Arab American Institute's annual dinner that he believes Israel and the United States have a "special relationship," but resented being told by a pro-Israel activist that if he wants backing from the pro-Israel community, his support for Israel should be "automatic." Hagel for President!!!

04-26-07 - Legislator blasts pro-Israel group "Well-publicized statements by Pastor Hagee demonstrate extremism, bigotry and intolerance that is repugnant," U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum, a Democrat, said in a two-page reply declining a form invitation from Pastor Mac Hammond. Good for her!

04-26-07 - The puppet who cleared the way for Iraq's destruction Before we conclude that Wolfowitz was the original author of the policies that destroyed Iraq, we should note that his entire career, at least up through his Pentagon service, has been in the service and at the direction of others. His early work in Washington promoting the dubious merits of an anti-ballistic missile programme, for example, was sponsored by Paul Nitze, a powerful insider who devoted a lifetime of intrigue to boosting east-west tensions and US defence spending. Nitze served as godfather to the neoconservative movement in the 70s, correctly calculating that a fusion of the pro-Israel lobby with the military-industrial lobby would create an alliance of unstoppable power. Among the early and most potent recruits was an old friend of Wolfowitz's, Richard Perle, known and feared in Washington as "the Prince of Darkness" for his ruthless bureaucratic skills and commanding position in the neoconservative forces.

04-26-07 - Clinton: US might have to confront Iran ** Democratic presidential candidate and New York Senator Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that it might be necessary for America to confront Iran militarily, addressing that possibility more directly than any of the other presidential candidates who spoke this week to the National Jewish Democratic Council.

04-25-07 - Dodd Vows Support For Israel Dodd got a standing ovation from the 150 people gathered at a downtown meeting of the National Jewish Democratic Council, whose agenda vows to fight for "separation of church and state, a strong U.S.-Israel relationship and reproductive freedom." if these folks believe in the separation of church and state than their support of Israel is oxymoronic. They want separation of church and state HERE (cake) but for Israel to remain a 'Jewish State' (and eat it too). Hypocrisy.

04-24-07 - Obama tries to reassure Jewish voters Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record) on Tuesday tried to reassure Jewish voters concerned about his Muslim ties, arguing that his commitment to Israel's security is unwavering.

04-24-07 - It's foreign policy, stupid! Dems have a brand new bag Marc Winkelman of Austin, Texas, expressed relief that the candidates focused on foreign policy. He had feared that an isolationist wing would draw the party inward. "This was a big concern," Winkelman said. "A lot of people believe we have no right to stick our nose in other people's business."

04-24-07 - New Mexico buys $5 million in bonds

04-24-07 - U.S. lawmakers protest U.K. boycott U.S. Reps. Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.), chairman of the House of Representatives' Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia, and Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) wrote Monday to Sir David Manning about the National Union of Journalists' decision to boycott Israel How is that part of their duties on Capitol Hill?

04-23-07 - Is the Media Sabotaging the AIPAC Spy Trial? A few of the same corporate news outlets filing the motion were willingly used by Weissman and Rosen to disseminate classified information to further AIPAC's policy objectives Is the author of this piece suggesting that there is an abundance of Israel-defenders in the mainstream media in America? Preposterous! ....

04-23-07 - The right to strike John Kennedy's assassination and the rise to power of Lyndon Johnson improved Israel's status in Washington. For American Jewry, the political and personal channels to Johnson were more open, warm and influential. Johnson did not share Kennedy's intransigent opposition to the reactor at Dimona.....the new president appointed to three key positions officials who were more sympathetic to Israel than their predecessors Interesting. Read the last few articles with respect to the Liberty. Israel still refuses to admit that the attack was deliberate.

04-23-07 - What do Israelis think about America's role in the world? a remarkable total of 82 percent of Israelis say that the United States takes their interests into account. A mere 14 percent disagree. No kidding? Why we NEVER would've guessed that the US takes Israel's interests into account. Will wonders never cease?!

04-23-07 - Levin Gives Cheney Reason To Smirk Levin may be concerned about things other than looking bad. Those taking part in last month?s meeting of the America Israel Public Affairs Committee in Washington heard stern warnings from Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni that America not show ?weakness? on Iraq ? warnings that a U.S. troop withdrawal would make the neighborhood far more dangerous for Israel.

04-21-07 - GIULIANI BANDWAGON BRANCHES OUT TO ISRAEL In some past elections, planeloads of Israelis with American citizenship have flown to the United States to vote. Should not be allowed. With Israel being the recipient of the most US foreign aid, clearly there is a direct conflict of interest.

04-21-07 - Israeli Giuliani groupies to bring votes The thousands of eligible absentee voters in Israel could have a significant impact on who will win the Republican and Democratic nominations. Should not be allowed.

04-21-07 - "America at a Crossroads" veers to the right One episode, a virtual infomercial for Richard Perle, a leading neoconservative theorist and architect of the Iraq war, is so laughably biased -- and so unbalanced by any film giving equal time to a corresponding perspective on the left -- that it taints the entire series Since when does PBS favor neocons? Since this individual and those like her stepped into the fold. As soon as these people (Israeli lobby) infiltrated the place, the BS starts. PBS was supposed to offer something a little different than the mainstream media. Turns out, it does not. It was a nice idea though. To be fair, what the author of this piece describes on page 3 regarding what SHOULD have been included in this series was in fact included in the series Lawrence of Arabia by PBS. It was a great series. PBS should rerun it sometime so that Americans get the truth as to what really happened to Palestine, and consequently what motivates such hatred of the US (due its support of Israel's colonial project in the region). Knowing the motivation for the attacks on the US does not justify the attacks. But not investigating the causes is like the police not investigating the motives for serious crimes. It has to be done, folks. There are those in this country that do not want you to know why. Here's my message to them.

04-20-07 - 'Bomb, bomb, bomb' Iran, US senator sings ** "That old Beach Boys song, 'Bomb Iran'?" McCain said in response to a question about US policy on its diplomatic pariah at an electoral campaign meeting in the state of North Carolina......"Iran is dedicated to the destruction of Israel," McCain went on in a serious tone, however. "That alone should concern us, but now they are trying for nuclear capabilities. I totally support the president (George W. Bush) when he says we will not allow Iran to destroy Israel."

04-20-07 - U.S. eyes potential $65 million bomb sale to Israel "It is vital to the U.S. national interest to assist Israel in developing and maintaining a strong and ready self-defense capability," the Pentagon added. In the words of Col. Wilkerson from the video (of the Israeli lobby) of today's news batch: Bullsh#t. It's actually just the opposite.

04-20-07 - Fighting Terror Takes Pro-Active Military Approach, Experts Say Thursday's event was hosted by the Israel Project

04-20-07 - Top Jewish Dems 'appreciate' Olmert Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.), who both chair committees in the U.S. House of Representatives, were quoted in this week's Forward about Democratic anger at the Israeli prime minister, who accused Pelosi, speaker of the House, of misrepresenting him after she delivered a purported message from Olmert to Syria.

04-20-07 - Video about the Israeli lobby This is that same video that I had linked to a week or so ago, but noted that someone had inserted some anti-Semitic bs in the beginning (for whatever reason, could be to discredit the entire message of the video ) - minus the anti-Semitic crap. This is likely the ORIGINAL. It came from this page, but I had trouble seeing the picture from the page, so I linked to the clip itself. This is a very well made video that features Walt, Mearsheimer, Earl Hiliard, Tony Judt. This version is longer than the previous one. Beware of those that seek to lump together criticism of Israel with genuine anti-Semitism. As to the statement by Judt at the very end of the clip, one may ask themselves: why is that? The answer to the question lies with the very theme of the clip.

04-19-07 - Is a Very Public Love Affair Headed for the Rocks? Olmert sang Bush's praises during a recent televised address to American pro-Israel activists, echoing the tune of his predecessor, Ariel Sharon. Both admired Bush most for his hands-off approach; they were satisfied that the administration was all talk and no action when it came to the Palestinian cause.

04-19-07 - Local women's caucus endorses Clinton's presidential bid . Ruskin spoke of the rising prominence of Jewish Republicans, whose strong voice within the current administration compensates for the relatively small percentage of Los Angeles' -- and the nation's -- Jewish vote.....She said she fears that as appealing as Illinois Sen. Barack Obama may appear, "people know his name is Barack Hussein Obama. Fair or not, those things matter when you get people in the booth."....As for national support, Ziman had been to the recent American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference and noted that many "believed she's the best for Israel." That's strange, because I thought Clinton was campaigning to serve the AMERICAN people?

04-19-07 - Iran nuclear threat: What to do? ** As the wild ride known as the Bush Administration careens toward its end, the only question remaining is whether the president will order an attack on Iran.....Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) has been attacking the Bush administration for being too easy on Iran. Other Jewish members of Congress, and Israel's supporters, have been highly critical of the Iranian regime. There is clearly a Jewish constituency for a tough line with Iran, and the Bush administration knows that the Israel card is a powerful motivator. The neoconservatives, some of whom are Jewish hawks, seem hopeful that they can salvage their Iraq disaster with an Iran success.

04-19-07 - U.S. presses Lebanon on Red Cross "Israel allows visitation rights by the ICRC to people who are identified as Lebanese that are in Israeli captivity," David Welch, the top State Department envoy to the Middle East, testified Wednesday in Congress, referring to the International Committee of the Red Cross. Thus does the US government continue to do Israel's bidding.

04-18-07 - Gates tries to ease Israeli concerns "I'm confident that the Russians would be very happy to sell weapons to countries in the region," he said. Gates said he affirmed the U.S. will continue to help Israel maintain its qualitative military edge, but did not say whether the Saudi deal would go through. Our government must get Israel's permission to sell weapons to Middle Eastern nations, among other things.

04-18-07 - Gates vows US will persevere with Baghdad crackdown "We have anticipated from the very beginning... that the insurgency and others would increase the violence to make the people of Iraq believe the plan is a failure," Gates said at a joint press conference with his Israeli counterpart Amir Peretz in Tel Aviv as he continued a regional tour.

04-18-07 - US wishes Arab contact group with Israel was larger The US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Washington had notably approached some governments in the Gulf and North Africa which have limited ties with Israel to join the group, but without success. Thus does the US government continue to do Israel's bidding.

04-18-07 - Silencing New Voices t it's hard to avoid concluding the decision was also political, a pointed message from a well-heeled group of Jewish donors to an undersized publication with a small but important audience that the magazine was not propagating the right message in a crucial battle: the campus wars on Israel. ......."We had a conversation with a source with firsthand knowledge of Solelim's inner workings who told us there was some controversy over our coverage of Israel, that something was said at one meeting about how New Voices put quality journalism ahead of support for Israel,"

04-18-07 - Squeeze Play: Approach Tehran with Sticks, Not Carrots ** In short, all the key players in the Middle East -- Sunni, Shia, Israeli -- now have nuclear weapons at a moment when the simmering and, in some cases, quite open conflicts between the region's states, sects, and ethnicities are almost too numerous to count. If that situation sounds terrifying, it should.......Needless to say, a nuclear arms race in the Middle East would greatly increase the chances of war -- between Sunnis and Shia or between Israelis and Muslims -- through mistake or miscalculation. For this reason alone, we must prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Another genius that has failed to grasp the notion that America is NOT Israel. That's Dennis Ross (a pro-Israeli) writing for the Washington Institute for Near East Policy - AIPAC'S 'thinktank'.

04-18-07 - Civil Rights on Campus The Civil Rights Commission's new Web site has already won praise from both the Zionist Organization of America and the Anti-Defamation League. The battle against anti-Israel sentiment on campus will be a long struggle and not an easy one, for the tendencies are related to the anti-American sentiment that also all too often obtains among college professors This is from the NY Sun, a staunchly pro-Israel newspaper. Did you read between the lines here? This is an admission that these new efforts by the Civil Rights Comission to study anti-Semitism on campus are about ONE THING - the fight against critics of Israel. Be warned. Americans have EVERY RIGHT to criticize Israel. The Israeli lobby is seeking to take away your right to FREE SPEECH.

04-18-07 - Dems Divided over Webb?s Proposal Requiring Approval for Attacking Iran ** The reversal quieted some Democrats? concerns that reining in Bush on Iran could endanger Israel?s security in the Middle East.

04-17-07 - Why is the Peace Movement Silent About AIPAC?

04-17-07 - Behind George Soros' Fight With AIPAC Sources familiar with the Soros-AIPAC controversy report that AIPAC has been involved in a smear campaign against Soros because, among other reasons, Soros' Open Society Fund has bankrolled the revival of Jewish communities in many areas of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, whereas AIPAC's backers believe that all of world Jewry should be living in Israel.

04-17-07 - AIPAC judge throws out motion to keep trial secret "It is important we get it tried as soon as possible -- or not tried," Ellis said. That was the first of two times that Ellis appeared to hint that the prosecution should consider dropping the case.

04-17-07 - Turkish Jews send letter on Armenian resolution Other Jewish groups, mindful of the history of Holocaust revisionism, do not want to deny Armenians the opportunity to commemorate their own genocide, which Israeli researchers have said was a precursor to the Holocaust.

04-17-07 - Soros attacks US pro-Israel lobby Mr Soros, who is Jewish, argues Aipac has exceeded its mission by intervening in debates over Iran, the failed appointment of the neocon John Bolton as US ambassador to the UN, and its earlier enthusiastic support of the Iraq invasion.

04-17-07 - Is Cheney Right? Will Democrats Cave on Iraq Funding? What would prompt Levin to preempt his own majority leader? One possible explanation might be found in the chutzpah-laden admonitions coming from Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) cheerleaders for Cheney, who do not disguise their fervor for the U.S. continuing the war in Iraq. Their gratuitous warnings at last month's AIPAC meeting in Washington that U.S. politicians not show "weakness" on Iraq spring from their conviction that withdrawal of U.S. troops would make the neighborhood more dangerous for Israel. (Israeli politicians should have thought of that before goading Bush and Cheney into attacking Iraq in the first place.)

04-16-07 - Why Won?t Prominent Republicans Criticize Novak Today, the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) called on Republican party leaders to offer a public rebuke of right wing pundit Bob Novak?s harsh anti-Israel stance and string of unbalanced columns. The HORROR!

04-16-07 - Gates to visit Israel in hopes of calming fears over Iran threat US Defense Secretary Robert Gates will attempt to allay Israeli fears during his short trip to Israel on Wednesday regarding the looming Iranian nuclear threat as well as the consequences of an American withdrawal from Iraq

04-16-07 - Judge keeps lobbyist trial open The judge in the classified information trial of two former AIPAC staffers threw out a prosecution request to keep significant portions of the trial secret from the public.

04-16-07 - Israeli PM calls for diggers to stay in Iraq Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has warned against a premature withdrawal of US and Australian forces from Iraq Whose War is this?

04-15-07 - Saudis continue to boycott Israel In November 2005, Riyadh pledged to abandon the boycott after Washington conditioned Saudi Arabia's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) on such a move. A month later, on December 11, Saudi Arabia was granted WTO membership.

04-15-07 - FEATURE-Soros adds voice to debate over Israel lobby Former President Jimmy Carter's book "Palestine Peace Not Apartheid" shot up the bestseller lists after its publication last November, stayed there for more than three months and is still selling well. It had an initial print run of 300,000 copies and there are now 485,000 copies in print, said Victoria Meyer, a spokeswoman for Simon and Schuster.

04-14-07 - Walt, Mearsheimer walk back from Iraq claim Two professors who published a controversial paper on the "Israel lobby" appear to have walked back from their claim that pro-Israel voices were principally responsible for the Iraq war.

04-14-07 - Guess Who Wants to "Micromanage" the President's Policy on Iran? the American Israel Public Affairs Committee - the same folks who lobbied to remove the provision against an illegal attack on Iran from the supplemental - is pushing to strengthen unilateral U.S. sanctions against Iran. Guess what their proposed legislation - H.R. 1400 and S. 970 - would do?

04-14-07 - FBI: Hizbullah avoiding attacks on US Fuentes described the FBI as having a "close relationship" with Israel when it comes to combating terrorism, adding that that was also true for the FBI's counterparts in neighboring countries.

04-14-07 - The men behind Israel's proxy war Together with his boss, Paul Wolfowitz, then deputy defence secretary, Douglas Feith was part of an influential group of pro-Israeli neo-conservatives in the Bush administration who exploited the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the US to campaign and plot the overthrow of Saddam Hussain.

04-13-07 - Stanford Restricts Attendance at Speech by "Ex-terrorists" Members of the public and the news media will not be allowed to attend a student-run forum at Stanford University featuring a speaker who describes himself as a former Palestinian terrorist. 'Former Palestinian terrorists' are either jailed, deported, or prevented from entering this country in the first place. It's a mite odd that when these 'former terrorists' do the bidding of the Israeli lobby - not only are they allowed to stay, they are also allowed to give speeches all over the country.

04-13-07 - Hillel presents Iran sanctions petition Hillel presented Rep. Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) with 12,000 signatures on a petition urging Europe and the United Nations to support sanctions against Iran.

04-13-07 - APN opposes Iran sanctions bills The American Israel Public Affairs Committee strongly backs both packages, and urged its activists this week to lobby their lawmakers to push through the sanctions

04-13-07 - CUFI "wipes" mosques Christians United For Israel, a pro-Israel evangelical group, features on its website a photo of Jerusalem with the city's holiest mosques wiped out.......CUFI, headed by Texas preacher, Pastor John Hagee, has made inroads into Jewish reluctance to deal with evangelicals. Hagee spoke last month at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's policy conference.

04-13-07 - Amcha: Secrecy May Turn Aipac Case Into Modern-Day Dreyfus Affair Imposing a veil of secrecy on the upcoming trial of two pro-Israel lobbyists could turn the case into a modern-day sequel to the Dreyfus affair, a Jewish group warned in a legal brief filed yesterday. Read that Ritter article (best one yet) from this news batch. AIPAC should be forced to register as a FOREIGN agent.

04-13-07 - Sharp pen, cruel tongue The first big crisis in his relations with the Jewish organizations, says Novak, erupted long before he was baptized. This happened in the wake of a column in which Evans and Novak assaulted Israel after the Israel Defense Forces attack in 1967 on the American spy ship Liberty, in which 34 sailors were killed and 171 wounded...... In innumerable columns and television programs, the Catholic conservative crucified the neoconservatives - particularly the Jewish ones, headed by Richard Perle and Douglas Feith, close associates of former secretary of defense Donald Rumsfeld. He asserted that they had dragged Bush into the Iraqi quagmire. I knew I liked this Novak guy (despite the fact that he seems to enjoy bashing Plame).

04-13-07 - U.S. hopes to ease Israeli fears over arms sales to Saudi Arabia The American defense establishment is determined to sell these systems to Arab states and will seek a compromise formula in order to prevent supporters of Israel in Congress from foiling the deal. Israel has also expressed interest in procuring a number of advanced systems from the U.S. and it is possible that Washington will agree to reconsider the sale of these to Israel in exchange for an easing of Israeli objections to the Saudi deal " in order to prevent supporters of Israel in Congress from foiling the deal".

04-13-07 - The Final Act of Submission by Scott Ritter Despite the fact that Congress was only stating through this language a simple reflection of constitutional mandate, Speaker Pelosi and others felt that the inclusion of such verbiage put the security of the state of Israel at risk by eliminating important "policy options" for the president of the United States. In short, Israeli national security interests trumped the Constitution of the United States.....history will show that the Pelosi-led sellout to Israeli special interests endangered the viability and security of America as a sovereign state governed by the rule of law more than Jack Abramoff ever could. I highly recommend you read the entire article. It is not as long as it appears to be. Ritter is finally getting as bent as any red-blooded American should be with regard to this topic. We've been sold down the river, folks. And the sooner you all realize it, the sooner we can do something about it.

04-13-07 - Iraq: Why the media failed Some commentators, like Philip Weiss, have begun to raise the sensitive issue of the role played by the neocons' concern for Israel's security. In years to come, historians will ponder why America under Bush adopted, in effect, the Israeli position toward the Arab world without the ramifications of this radical and extremely risky move ever being discussed, or indeed the parallels even being acknowledged.

04-12-07 - Sun-rise in New York Stoll had been reading a Harvard University working paper by professors Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer, of Harvard and the University of Chicago, respectively, titled "The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy." The barrage began with a piece by reporter Eli Lake, who contacted David Duke and then produced a page-one story announcing that the Walt-Mearsheimer paper was "winning praise from white supremacist David Duke." (That story was headlined "David Duke Claims to be Vindicated by a Harvard Dean.") A few days later another Sun story insisted, with no evidence, that the two professors had "culled sections of the paper from neo-Nazi and other anti-Israel hate Web sites."

04-12-07 - Is It Possible To Have A Frank Debate About Israel? Just because Israel is a democracy, has religious liberties and is usually sympathetic to our interests does not mean that her wars are America's wars. Yes it is true that Iran poses a vital threat to Israel, as does Hezbollah, Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, and scores of other radical Islamic groups. But those are her enemies, not ours. I stumbled upon this article because I saw a neocon whining about it. And anytime a neocon attacks a commentator or politician, you know that the truth got out somewhere.

04-12-07 - Americans, Israelis eye joint satellite project American and Israeli defense firms hope to team up in designing tactical military satellites. Israel wants us so intertwined and clusterf#$%ed with them that it would be impossible for us to ever extricate ourselves - which is the point.

04-12-07 - Bush extends PLO office waiver Recent congressional action has sought to limit Bush's ability to waive laws dating back to the 1980s that ban such a presence.

04-12-07 - AMCHA files to join AIPAC case A Jewish organization has for the first time formally joined in a motion friendly to the defense of two former AIPAC staffers facing classified information leak charges.

04-12-07 - U.S. defense chief to visit Israel Jerusalem hopes the trip will help put to rest a 2005 dispute caused by Israel's sale of advanced weaponry to China.

04-12-07 - The Israel lobby (AIPAC): a danger to the world THis is an incredibly well-made and put together video clip which really really makes me wonder why someone felt the need to insert an anti-Semitic diatribe by the Malaysian guy there, and then insert the text about 'the Jews rule the world by proxy'. Very odd, uncalled for, and unwelcome. And may even have been an attempt to lump criticism of this lobby in with genuine anti-Semitism; my guess. You see, having that BS at the beginning would appear to be geared toward having people do one of two things: a) not watching the rest of the clip. b) watching the rest of the clip but because of the anti-Semitic crap in the beginning, the subsequent genuine criticism of the Israeli lobby in the clip is thereby discredited. I wonder: did the person that put this film together really include the anti-Semitic stuff, or did someone else insert it after the fact? I strongly believe the latter.

04-11-07 - Closed 1967 Senate protocols reveal bids to pressure Israel Hundreds of pages released this week by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee contain protocols of closed committee hearings from the seminal year of 1967, including one in which former Senator William J. Fulbright is quoted as saying, "The trouble is they [the Israel lobby] think they have control of the Senate and they can do as they please." Fulbright was castigated for his efforts to put American interests first back THEN. Same phenom continues to this day, which is why our politicians rarely say a word.

04-11-07 - Divide and rule - America's plan for Baghdad ** the campaign has far wider military ambitions than the pacification of Baghdad. It now appears that the US military intends to place as many as five mechanised brigades - comprising about 40,000 men - south and east of Baghdad, at least three of them positioned between the capital and the Iranian border. This would present Iran with a powerful - and potentially aggressive - American military force close to its border in the event of a US or Israeli military strike against its nuclear facilities later this year.........Those attending the course - American army generals serving in Iraq and top officers from the US Marine Corps, along with, according to some reports, at least four senior Israeli officers - participated in a series of debates to determine how best to "turn round" the disastrous war in Iraq. Read that last sentence again.

04-10-07 - Pelosi, Lantos may be interested in diplomatic trip to Iran Pelosi said that throughout the congressional delegation's recent Middle East trip, "every place we went we had a constant message: the safety and security of Israel, fighting terrorism.'' Huh? What about the safety and security of AMERICA? Isn't that (allegedly) why we are over there in the first place?

04-10-07 - Internet politics slowly coming to life, say experts Meanwhile, Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu has used his own personal blog to tell Israelis of his campaign overseas to isolate Iran. "During my recent visits to Britain, France , and the US, I continued in my efforts to draw international and American attention to the danger posed by Iran's nuclear arms program," Netanyahu wrote. "I found an attentive ear among both Republican and Democratic leaders, who recognize the real threat of an Iran armed with nuclear weapons,"

04-10-07 - Media seeks public access in upcoming AIPAC lobbyists? trial News organizations filed documents in federal court Monday opposing a government request to close portions of an upcoming trial of two former pro-Israel lobbyists accused of violating the Espionage Act.

04-08-07 - Cheney, Olmert remarks heat up rhetorical battle over Pelosi's trip "The speaker conveyed precisely what the prime minister and the acting president asked," Lantos told JTA. That included the traditional Israeli caveat about Syrian backing for terrorism......Last year, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice talked Olmert into a 48-hour cease-fire during the war with Hezbollah to allow humanitarian relief, but within hours Israeli planes were bombing again, to Rice's surprise and anger. Olmert had received a call, apparently from Cheney's office, telling him to ignore Rice.

04-06-07 - A Rhino in the Dining Room

04-05-07 - Democrats Earn Their Stripes in the War Party ** by Philip Giraldi The apparent shift in course should be greeted with relief by all those who want to avoid yet another preemptive conflict, but assurances from neoconservatives that war is no longer the preferred option for dealing with Iran should be viewed cautiously and even as disinformation intended to defuse opposition......Our Iran policy is heavily influenced by the Israel lobby, and the Democrats have long been closely linked to Israel for a number of reasons The Israeli lobby decides who our #1 enemies are.

04-05-07 - Israel stalls US arms sales to Saudis: report Israel decides to whom our government will or won't sell arms.

04-05-07 - New legislation targeting Palestinians in the works in an alert to colleagues, Ros-Lehtinenâ??s staff made the goals of the expected bill explicit: â??To counter attempts by [Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and the State Department] to deal with unity [government] and send assistance to non-Hamas members of unity government,â?? according to a memo by a top aid to the lawmaker. The Israeli lobby decides with whom our government officials will and will not meet.

04-05-07 - The Play That Is Not Coming to a Theater Near You It is hard not to see this as self-censorship by a board swayed by a vocal minority The pro-Israelis decide what you will and will not see.

04-05-07 - No hope for Israel-Palestinian peace deal under Bush BY ROBERT NOVAK American presidential candidates of both parties do not want to take risks on this issue. A mere statement of sympathy for the Palestinians by Sen. Barack Obama brought massive criticism.

04-05-07 - Ban meets with AJCommittee U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met with American Jewish Committee leaders. The US Israeli lobby is working hard on Ban Ki-Moon, the new UN Secretary General. They'll do anything to see to it that no legal body criticizes Israel.

04-05-07 - Report: Israeli concerns stall Saudi arms deal "Israel has expressed concern that this proposal could affect" its qualitative military edge over its antagonists, a Defense Department official was quoted as saying. "We don't want to go to Congress until we've got everybody on board."

04-05-07 - Aipac Prosecution: Limited Access Is Constitutional: Claim Defense Attempting Graymail Prosecutors contend that the defense's objections amount to "graymail," a practice by which defendants try to undercut the prosecution by threatening the disclosure of highly classified information.

04-05-07 - Aipac Prosecutor Caught Up in Justice Department Scandal The deputy attorney general is no longer the lead prosecutor in the case. But if McNulty were to leave under a cloud, it could lend ammunition to efforts by the defense team and some officials at other Jewish organizations to paint the prosecution as a politically biased effort.

04-05-07 - Israelis want rematch in Lebanon ** The difference this time around? The IDF will go into Gaza, too -- and it is all part of a plan to neutralize Iranian proxies on Israel's borders, one element of a strategic effort to prevent Iran getting nuclear weapons and overthrow the mullahs in Tehran. The plan was laid out in Washington last month by Effie Eitam, a hawkish former general and darling of the orthodox hard right who now leads a small religious splinter group in the Knesset....Eitam said that a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq 'before defeating the Iranian regime ... (would have) enormous strategic consequences.'

04-05-07 - First They Came for the Spies The title of Dorothy Rabinowitz's Wall Street Journal screed defending two accused spies, "First They Came for the Jews," telegraphs the strategy apologists for Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman will be using when the two AIPAC officials' trial on charges of espionage, scheduled for June 4, finally begins. It is also a smear so outrageous it almost defies belief. As we inch ever closer to the trial date, we can expect such hysteria from the usual corners. It harkens back to that piece in the Washington Post that smeared Patrick Fitzgerald just prior to the Libby trial. It's the shrill cry/whine of the lobby when its balls are pinned to the wall after having been called out on its criminal behavior. That this whining is once again given prominent placement in our mainstream media is more evidence of the power of this lobby.

04-03-07 - Another bogus report about Palestinian Textbooks (based on translations by pro-Israel 'watchdog') Palestinian Media Watch translated various segments of the new Palestinian textbooks, Notice that this article is only featured on the websites of Fox News affiliates. Rupert Murdoch is a known Israel-defender and so it is fitting that his news conglomerate is aiding the PMW by pushing their propaganda. There evidently are MANY Israel-defenders in our mainstream media. Get your news from overseas, folks.

04-03-07 - Israel's deputy Prime Minister cancels his visit to Ankara Congressman Tom Lantos on Thursday night called Foreign Minister Abdullah G?l and reacted to the invitation of Hamas. 04-01-07 - Olmert reminds Rice: Bush is still her boss The message was unmistakable: What Rice had to say barely mattered. Olmert had it all worked out with the president. Rice did not like it, but proceeded according to plan in convening the triple summit in Jerusalem with Olmert and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. The summit came and went with no real effect. .....At their meeting, Olmert rejected her offer to engage in negotiations on a permanent peace agreement with the Palestinians, which were designed to present them with "a political horizon."

04-01-07 - McNulty, what were you thinking? Paul McNulty made time in his busy schedule for a major case against Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman, two senior AIPAC staffers.....And within months, McNulty is named deputy attorney general. Did the author of this piece forget this excerpt that he penned just last week?: "The U.S. Attorney in eastern Virginia at the time, Paul McNulty, "would like to end it with minimal damage to AIPAC," the document quotes Lewin as telling Lowell. "He is fighting with the FBI to limit the investigation to Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman and to avoid expanding it." ". McNulty did damage control for AIPAC and THEN was promoted. Was he rewarded for going after Rosen and Weissman, or was he rewarded for letting AIPAC off the hook? Methinks the latter.

04-01-07 - Pelosi in Israel stresses security through strength and diplomacy Showcasing her pro-Israel credentials, Pelosi spoke of her family's longtstanding support for the Jewish state - Pelosi's father was a congressman from Maryland and mayor of Baltimore who was supportive of Israel - and told of how she keeps dog tags from Israel's MIAs in her congressional office......In an interview, Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) told JTA that the delegation was visiting Damascus to confront President Bashar Assad directly on such issues as Syria's support for terrorists, Hezbollah and Iran, as well as to press for the release of Israel's missing soldiers in Lebanon.

04-01-07 - Pardons reemerge as issue in Clinton run "It is a legitimate campaign issue," said Stephen Gillers, professor of legal ethics at New York University School of Law. He said that Hillary Clinton should answer questions about her brothers' and her own involvement in the pardons because "the stench of the Marc Rich pardon still stinks and it has never been adequately explained. " From Wiki: "On January 20, 2001, hours before leaving office, President Bill Clinton granted Rich a presidential pardon. Since Rich's former wife and mother of his three children, socialite Denise Rich, had made large donations to the Democratic Party and the Clinton Library during Clinton's time in office, Clinton's critics alleged that Rich's pardon had been bought. Clinton explained his decision by noting that similar situations were settled in civil, not criminal court, and cited the clemency pleas from Israeli government officials, including Prime Minister Ehud Barak."

04-01-07 - Iran forces Israeli rethink ** Uzi Arad, former director of intelligence at Israel's spy agency, Mossad, has made a lifetime's study of revolutionary Iran. If international sanctions and diplomatic arm-twisting fail to halt its suspect nuclear activities, he is clear what the west must do: bomb Tehran.
