After American organizations sued, the government abandoned its initial reason for excluding me but came up with a new one ? that, between 1998 and 2002, I had contributed small amounts of money to a Swiss charity supporting humanitarian work in the Palestinian territories. The government is relying on a "material support" law that didn't exist until 2005 ? long after I made the donations ? and it is holding me accountable for donating to a charity that still operates lawfully in Europe today Another witchhunt likely led on by the Israeli lobby.

10/29/2007 - What will happen after Bush? Another context is the continuing erosion of Israel's standing in the United States. This does not manifest itself in public opinion polls and in votes in Congress, but rather in the loss of the "moral horizon," the change that has occurred in the standing of Israel, which used to be regarded as an attractive and just state. A clear expression of this is the recent reception of Jimmy Carter's book and of the book written by John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt about the Israeli lobby, which not only expressed criticism of Israel's policy but also questioned its legitimacy. Despite the criticism to which they have been subjected, these books are making waves and their authors are appearing throughout the United States. However, the reality is that the United States continues to plan to initiate and sustain a military strike against Iran.

10/15/2007 - Why are the Israelis lying about striking a "nuclear facility" in Syria? ** It also, I believe, prefigures, on a much smaller scale, the sequence of events likely to trigger war with Iran: an Israeli strike, Iranian retaliation via Hezbollah, followed by American intervention, which would be practically inevitable. Former CIA counterterrorism official Philip Giraldi has a similar article in the current (October 22) issue of The American Conservative. Israel wants to include Syria on the hitlist in any possible attack on Iran by the US, IMO. And she's looking for a pretext, any old one will do. This was a dry run. Critics of the war have often voiced suspicions of such imperial schemes, but this is the first time that a high-ranking former military officer has claimed to know that such plans existed. ..... 10/11/2007 - The dingbat wing of the neoconservative movement (or do I repeat myself?) is at the core of Team Giuliani This last is the keynote of Rudy's run for the White House, and it is reflected not only in his public pronouncements ? he doesn't rule out nuking Iran ? but in his team of foreign policy advisers, who represent, more than any other campaign, the core leaders of the neoconservative hardliners who whooped it up for war with Iraq.

The neocons, much more than traditional conservatives and liberals, continue to be adept at networking and getting their message across, even if that message has frequently been mugged by reality. If you turn on a television and are invited to learn the views of an "expert" on foreign policy, that expert is likely to be a neocon. 10/10/2007 - Russia, Mideast focus of Rice trip

10/10/2007 - Families return to Lebanon camp "I'm so happy about going back, even if it's to just one inch of what's left of my home. It's as symbolic as returning to Palestine," Um Akram Awdeh, 60, told the Reuters news agency, as he waited in a bus to enter the camp.

10/10/2007 - Far Right Israelis Get Boost From Senator Elon, who supports the transfer of Palestinians out of the West Bank and Gaza, and considers the Palestinian Authority a ?danger to the region,? represents the far right of Israeli politics. By endorsing him, Brownback seems to be placing himself to the right of other Republican candidates on Israel policy.

10/10/2007 - Horowitz's Latest Hate Campaign Heads for Campus   Hyping up the threat of 'Islamofascism' to America is the MO of the Israeli lobby and in particular, the neocons. I give you Patrick Buchanan's retort to this 'theat', paragraph 10 in particular.

Security Council sanctions and even his mention of the possibility of war. While the United States and European nations are pressing for greater sanctions, Russia and China have resisted.

10/9/2007 - Nuke transportation story has explosive implications This is about how six nuclear advanced cruise missiles got out of their bunkers and onto a combat aircraft without notice of the wing commander, squadron commander, munitions maintenance squadron (MMS), the B-52H's crew chief and command pilot and onto another Air Force base tarmac without notice of that air base's chain of command -- for 10 hours.

10/9/2007 - Findings of the Independent Commission of Inquiry into the Israeli Attack on the USS Liberty due to continuing pressure by the pro-Israel lobby in the United States, this attack remains the only serious naval incident that has never been thoroughly investigated by Congress; to this day, no surviving crewmember has been permitted to officially and publicly testify about the attack; .....That a danger to our national security exists whenever our elected officials are willing to subordinate American interests to those of any foreign nation, and specifically are unwilling to challenge Israel's interests when they conflict with American interests; this policy, evidenced by the failure to defend USS Liberty and the subsequent official cover-up of the Israeli attack, endangers the safety of Americans and the security of the United States

Whose war?

10/8/2007 - 6 years later, US expands Afghan base Originally envisioned as a temporary home for invading U.S. forces, the sprawling American base at Bagram, a former Soviet outpost in the shadow of the towering Hindu Kush mountains, is growing in size by nearly a third.

10/8/2007 - GOP candidate calls for troop withdrawal Rep. Ron Paul believes political leaders are pumping up the threat of terrorism to accomplish political goals. Paul, the 10-term Texas congressman, told Monitor reporters and editors that concerns about the country's security have been overblown to justify needless foreign invasions and domestic surveillance programs....."As long as we occupy Muslims' countries, our danger is always growing," he said. "So, I think we're in a much more dangerous time now than we were before 9/11 because instead of wising up, what we've done is more of the wrong thing."

10/8/2007 - The Big Lie: 'Iran Is a Threat' by Scott Ritter ** On every point, the case made against Iran collapses upon closer scrutiny. ....Most if not all the claims made by the United States concerning Iranian military involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan have not been backed up with anything stronger than rhetoric, and more often than not are subsequently contradicted by other military and governmental officials, citing a lack of specific evidence. Iran as a nation represents absolutely no threat to the national security of the United States, or of its major allies in the region, including Israel......The fact of the matter is that the ?Iranian Threat? is derived solely from the rhetoric of those who appear to seek confrontation between the United States and Iran, and largely divorced from fact-based reality.

10/8/2007 - The Ron Paul Breakthrough   Ron Paul - one of the good guys.

10/8/2007 - Fire ravages border camp for Palestinian-Iraqi refugees A raging fire swept through the Al-Tanf refugee camp on the Syrian side of the Syrian-Iraqi border on 6 October injuring 25 Palestinian-Iraqi refugees and burning down 53 tents in the isolated camp, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) reported on 7 October.

10/8/2007 - 'Jewish, Armenian groups defaming us' Babacan said Ankara expected the US administration, the Iraqi government and the administration in northern Iraq to take action against the PKK operating from northern Iraq.

10/8/2007 - Rep. Ron Paul: I advocate the same foreign policy the Founding Fathers would A Paul administration would see Americans engaged overseas like never before, in business and cultural activities. But a Paul administration would never attempt to export democracy or other values at the barrel of a gun, as we have seen over and over again that this is a counterproductive approach that actually leads the United States to be resented and more isolated in the world.

10/8/2007 - Neocons Converge Around Giuliani Campaign Podhoretz is in favor of bombing Iran because of the country's unwillingness to suspend its uranium-enrichment program. He also believes America is engaged in a "world war" with "Islamofascism" and that Giuliani is the only man who can win it......what's left of the neocon movement does seem to be converging around the Giuliani campaign, to some degree, because he embraces their common themes Clue: The Israel Factor, a site that ranks candidates based on their support of Israel, has Giuliani ranked at number 1. The author of this piece goes on to suggest that neocons are in line with Giuliani's pro-Israeli views, as are most American voters. Hogwash. The name of this game is which candidate can kowtow the lowest to the Israeli Lobby.

10/8/2007 - Israeli president brands Iran 'centre of global terror' "Iran is the greatest terrorist centre in the world today," he said, adding that "it is openly building an arsenal of long-range missiles and, secretely, nuclear weapons.

10/7/2007 - Petraeus steps up accusations against Iran The U.S. military commander in Iraq stepped up accusations over the weekend that Iran was inciting violence there and said Tehran's ambassador to Baghdad was a member of the Revolutionary Guards Qods force. Making the case for war.

10/7/2007 - Iran rejects nuclear program talks

10/7/2007 - Brown aide plays down US talk of Iran threat ** Diplomatic relations between Britain and the United States over Iran are under increasing strain after Gordon Brown's special security adviser warned that American claims about Tehran's military capability should be taken 'with a pinch of salt'.......More recently Freedom's Watch took out ads describing Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as 'a terrorist'. According to the New York Times, anonymous benefactors told the paper that the group plans to sponsor a private forum of experts on Islam to make the case that Iran poses a direct threat to the US.......But it is the link with Cheney that is the strongest, leading to the widespread view that the organisation is in effect his own creature

10/7/2007 - US accuses Iran's envoy to Iraq The top US military commander in Iraq, Gen David Petraeus, has accused Iran's ambassador of belonging to an elite unit of Iran's Revolutionary Guards......Gen Petraeus said he had no doubt Iran was behind attacks that had led to the deaths of US soldiers. Making the case for war.

10/7/2007 - The fallout from an attack on Iran would be devastating ** Just as in the runup to the invasion of Iraq, the Washington air is thick with unsubstantiated claims about weapons of mass destruction; demonisation of the country's president has reached bizarre proportions; intelligence leaks about links with al-Qaida and attacks on US and British targets are now routine; demands for war from the administration's neoconservative outriders are becoming increasingly strident; the pronouncements of George Bush and his vice-president, Dick Cheney, are turning ever more belligerent - and administration sources claim that the British government is privately ready to play ball......despite the populist Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's ugly remarks about the Holocaust, it is the nuclear states America and Israel that now threaten and have the capacity to attack Iran, not the other way round.

10/7/2007 - Making the Same Mistake Twice ** Certainly all of the negative comments about Iran that are coming from Israel, its lobby and its foot-kissers in Congress, and from the White House and the Pentagon, look remarkably like a buildup for a new war.

10/7/2007 - Shield Law Perils . . . Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee will consider a "shield law" for journalists that would radically alter the way national security investigations are conducted. Unlike state shield laws, a federal shield law poses unique obstacles to the protection of national security. We must know whether the proposed law squarely addresses a real problem before taking such a significant step. After having allowed a journalist to lambaste him a few months back over the Libby trial, the Washington Post prints an op ed by Patrick J. Fitzgerald. Question: What, no photo op with this piece, Paddy? ....

10/7/2007 - Israel fears Syrian proxy strike Syria could use proxies to retaliate for Israel's air strike on its territory last month. Most had lived there, or in other camps, all their adult lives, some since 1948. Others had been born and raised their own children in the camp. Despite the best efforts of some of aid agencies, support for the camps was drying up. The Archbishop will raise the question of better coordination of aid to the camps with aid agencies.

10/7/2007 - Turkish FM talks up Syrian role in Assad meeting Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said Damascus had an important role to play in settling conflict across the Middle East following talks on Sunday with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

10/6/2007 - US hawk David Wurmser 'plotted Iran war' ** Preceding him through the exit doors were figures such as Paul Wolfowitz, John Bolton, Doug Feith, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Robert Joseph and J.D.Crouch. This string of departures, Mr Wurmser concedes, is partly because there is "some degree of frustration" with the direction of President George W. Bush's foreign policy as career diplomats under Condoleezza Rice, US Secretary of State, have reasserted themselves. Do we dare hope that the America-firsters, if any, in this administration will prevail before the neocons start WWIII by attacking Iran?...

10/6/2007 - Unmasking AIPAC

10/6/2007 - So Who's Afraid of the Israel Lobby? by Ray McGovern I was intrigued by the fact that Mearsheimer and Walt made no mention of what I believe to be, if not the most telling, then perhaps the most sensational proof of the power the Lobby knows it can exert over our government and Congress. In sum, in June 1967, after deliberately using fighter-bombers and torpedo boats to attack the USS Liberty for over two hours in an attempt to sink it and kill its entire crew, and then getting the U.S. government, the Navy, and the Congress to cover up what happened, the Israeli government learned that it could ? literally ? get away with murder. My sentiments exactly. Ray McGovern is former CIA.

10/6/2007 - The High Cost of U.S. Subservience to Israel by Paul Findley America?s support of Israel?s brutality was the main motivation for 9/11. That tragedy would not have happened if any U.S. president in the last 40 years had refused to finance Israel?s humiliation and destruction of Palestine. Michael Scheuer, a former CIA analyst and now a consultant to CBS News, recently told a congressional committee that ?our unqualified support of Israel? was the main reason for 9/11. Marine Gen. Anthony Zinni, President George W. Bush?s first special envoy to the Middle East, has stated that the United States invaded Iraq for Israel and oil. Paul Findley was a Republican Congressman for 22 years.

10/5/2007 - Iran defiant over nuclear issue

10/5/2007 - US 'must break Iran and Syria regimes' ** In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, the first since he left government, he argued that the United States had to be prepared to attack both Syria and Iran to prevent the spread of Islamic fundamentalism and nuclear proliferation in the Middle East that could result in a much wider war. Unf'kingbelievable. Especially seeing as how Ba'athist Syria is nowhere near under the rule of Islamic fundamentalists. To the contrary: they quash that type of behavior and fast (as did Saddam, believe it or not). These two countries do not pose a threat to the US. They do however pose a threat to ISRAEL. Wurmser is a tried and true NEOCON, whose primary allegiance is clearly to said nation, not the US.

10/5/2007 - Iraq official says "big fat no" to attack on Iran ** "The whole area will be in flames, and Iraq will be the battlefield for all this, and we will pay heavily," Rubaie said at an event in Washington hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies think tank.

10/5/2007 - The Price of Promiscuous Intervention The U.S. is stretched militarily neither because it faces unusual and unusually dangerous threats nor because it possesses a minuscule military ill-prepared to defend the nation. Washington is running down its forces, most obviously Army and Marine Corps active and reserve troops, because the U.S. is trying to create political democracy and force social reconciliation through a military occupation. That's not what America's military forces are trained for. That's not what America's national interest requires.

He added the obvious: "a lot of money comes to the Democratic campaigns" from Jewish contributors.

10/5/2007 - Report: Israel 'blinded' Syrian radar According to the article, a Kuwaiti newspaper recently reported that "Russian experts are studying why the two state-of-the art Russian-built radar systems in Syria did not detect the Israeli jets entering Syrian territory. Iran reportedly has asked the same question, since it is buying the same systems and might have paid for the Syrian acquisitions."
